Best Massage Chair Brands Under $2000 (Updated for 2020)

Massage chairs can be good investments, and you don’t need to spend upwards of $5000 on a chair to get the basic benefits a massage chair offers, such as stress relief, and chronic pain management.

With a basic 1-hour massage costing $50-$90, a massage chair of 1500 to 2000 will pay for itself within 22-40 hours of use.

Given that you can use a massage chair about 30 minutes a day (more or less), it will pay for itself in 44-80 days.

So it’s basic math that a massage chair is worth $2000, but not all massage chairs of this price will last this long, especially models under $1000.

That’s why we’ve selected the top brands out of this price range to ensure you get your money’s worth.

A good massage chair doesn’t have to cost $5000, but some models in the $1000-$2000 price range can be a complete waste of money. What I found is that it going to be a challenge to bit Kahuna LM 6800 chair value due to it’s great reliability, customer service and price to features ratio.

Best Massage Chair Under $2000 (Updated List for 2020)

From the models and brands available under $2000 the Kahuna LM 6800 takes the lead in terms of quality and reliability, with a good range of features for the price and with great customer service.

But while this is the best model in under 2000 price range, it definitely has some serious competition.

If you want to know which massage chair is the best in the world right now check out my massage chair reviews guide!

1. Kahuna Massage Chair Recliner LM6800 – Best #1 Model Overall

Kahuna lm6800

For the price on Amazon, you’re not going to find a massage chair that has all the same functionality as the Kahuna LM 6800.

While the feet and calf rollers on this budget massage chair can be painful, this chair comes with added padding, and if this isn’t enough, you can always add an extra cushioned pad or some fabric to make it less harsh.

That being said, the LM 6800 has all the functionality of a high-end massage chair, albeit not to the same degree of expertise.

It has a body-scan, zero gravity, and even arm massage. With five different massage techniques and three-speed and intensity settings over various individual areas of the body, you’ll be able to target the sore spots without a problem. It’s also one of the cheapest L-track massage chairs.

L-track – The L-track uses a 4 roller massage system to relieve pain throughout the lower back and buttocks, giving relief to lower back pain and even some forms of sciatica.

Space-Saving Zero-Gravity – the space-saving technology only needs 3” of wall space for the three different zero gravity positions. Zero-Gravity has been proven to be the most effective position to enjoy a massage.

Dual Foot Rollers – Not many budget chairs include foot and leg massage, but the LM 6800 does. While the intensity of the dual-roller can be a bit much for some, this is easily remedied by adding a layer of padding.

Computerized Body Scan – Even though it’s a cheaper model, it still comes equipped with a full-body scan to ensure you get a massage that’s tailored to your size and shape.

5 Manual Massage Techniques – including Kneading, Tapping, Rolling, Shiatsu, and a combination of Kneading / Tapping, giving you a wide variety of options to choose from to get the massage that works best for you.

6 Auto Programs – Including the Yoga- Stretching program, which increases circulation and revitalizes your body with a series of stretching and massaging. The SH-Chiro program combines shiatsu and chiropractic techniques to relieve stress and tension in your spine.

Heating Therapy – provides extra pain relief in the lower back and legs.

Personal Adjustment Options – The roller speed and air cell massage intensity can be adjusted to three different levels, while massages can be targeted to individual areas including upper back, lower back, entire back, lower body, lower back & body.

PROS
  • Affordable
  • Has all the main functions of high-end chairs
  • Space-saving
CONS
  • Foot roller can be harsh
  • Has fewer adjustments than high-end models
  • Not good for tall/heavy people

Key Takeaway: The Kahuna LM6800 has all the functions that are essential to getting a good massage. With different pre-set programs that target common problem areas and a good amount of personal adjustment options, you’ll struggle to find a massage chair that does everything this one does for the same price.

CONS

3. Human Touch WholeBody 7.1 Massage Chair – 3D FlexGlide

7.1 WholeBody

This is one of the highest quality massge chairs under $2000. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have all the features of some of the other chairs, but it does have 3D FlexGlide, which is a smooth and pinch-free roller system.

It also does all the other basics, including BodyMapping, air warming, figure-8 calf massaging, foot massaging, 5 auto-programs, and a very handy swivel base.

This chair might be (relatively) cheap, but you’ll get more than your money’s worth!

5 Auto Massage Programs – Choose a program that best suits your needs and lie back as the chair does the rest.

Body Map Pro – Gone are the days of endlessly pressing buttons to get to the right spot Human Touch’s Body Map Pro function allows you to select the right area off the map of the human body.

Patented Warm Air Technology – A luxurious stream of warm air is used to heat and relax the lumbar area.

Swivel Base – Who needs a swivel base on a massage chair? Everyone who’s tied it. It makes moving around much, much easier.

FlexGlide Roller Technology – The orbital roller technology incorporated by Human Touch’s new patented FlexGlide reduces pinching and friction for a seamless roller effect that’s more relaxing than any other.

Hidden Ottoman – It looks like a normal massage chair, but transforms into a massage chair. The calf wells which double as footwells are hidden under the seat of the chair so you can use your massage chair as a normal chair.

Figure-8 Calf Massage – Human Touch uses paddles for calf massages instead of traditional airbags. The paddles move in a patented figure-8 for better circulation.

Easy-to-Use Remote – Simple yet effective, the remote control is easy to use and not intimidating at all.

Human-Like Techniques – Stretch, Flex, and Tone Massage techniques are mimicked by the special rollers in the chair back for a truly unique massage experience.

PROS
  • High-Quality parts
  • High-quality Massage
  • Swivel base
CONS
  • More expensive
  • Less features

Key Takeaway: The WholeBody might have fewer features than other chairs in this price category, but it does give a very good massage and it won’t break without a good reason. It’s a better investment than some of the other models with more features.

.

4. Real Relax Full Body Zero Gravity Shiatsu Massage Chair

RealRelax 2019

Real Relax Full Body Shiatsu Massage Chair is one of the best massage chairs in terms of number of features. The new 2020 Real Relax model comes with Bluetooth and 6 automatic programs.

While some people feel the shoulder massage is too weak, or the leg cushions too strong, the overall consensus us that, for the price, this chair is a very good buy.

Customer service is good, with chairs being replaced if they were delivered faulty, although a $150-$200 shipping fee may be asked for returns.

6 Automatic Programs – The massage chair has 6 auto programs that use different techniques to help you relax and unwind from the most common ailments.

Back and Foot Heating – The heating pads in the lower back and feet help relieve tension and promote circulation to increase the rate of healing.

Foot Massage – The foot massage includes both rollers and airbags for complete relaxation. The footrests are also extendable for people with longer legs.

Easy to Assemble, Use and Move – The chair is easy to assemble, even though the manual isn’t the best. The control; panel is equally easy to use, with adjustable timer and intensity features. And the handy rollers at the back of the base makes the chair easy to move,

Zero-Gravity and Manual Recline – Like most high-end chairs, the Real Relax comes with a zero-gravity feature, and even if the chair isn’t connected to a power outlet is can still be used as a recliner.

PROS
  • Good variety of quality features
  • Good customer service
CONS
  • Returns fee
  • Max height 6’1”

Key Takeaway: In terms of features and quality, this is one of the best options. Unfortunately, it isn’t the best chair for tall people, but other than that this is your best bet for a quality chair in this price range.

.

5. RELAXONCHAIR [MK-CLASSIC] Full Body Zero Gravity Shiatsu Massage Chair

RELAXONCHAIR MK

The RELAXONCHAIR has all the features of a high-end chair but for the fraction f the price. This is one of the most popular models with good customer service from the suppliers.

Unfortunately, there have been complaints about the pressure of the airbags in the calf region, and that the width adjustments don’t work on all the programs, but it is a slimmer chair.

There are a few complaints about the chair breaking down within a couple of months, but overall there are very few complaints.

Three Stage Zero Gravity – Giving you the option to choose the reclining angle that works best for you.

Body Scan – The chair measures the length of your spine, detecting the acupressure points to tailor the massage o your shape and size.

L-Track – Unline S-Track, L-track extends the roller track to below your glutes to give you added lower back relief.

7 Massage Programs – The seven automatic massage programs include a stretching and a deep tissue massage program

5 Manual Programs – The manual programs include 5 different massage techniques, including kneading, tapping, a combination of kneading and tapping, shiatsu, and rolling, giving you the option to choose your favorite technique.

3 Levels of Airbag and Speed Adjustments – The airbag pressure/intensity and speed of the rollers can be adjusted to three different levels so you can choose a combination that works best for you.

Foot and Calf Massage – Airbags offer a compression massage to the calves and feet, while rollers add a little extra relaxation with a concentrated kneading on your feet.

Arm Massage – Of the 42 airbags, some of them are located in the arms, giving you a relaxing arm massage.

Heating – The two heating pads in the lower back area provide extra relief from pain and increases the depth of relaxation.

PROS
  • Wide Variety of Features
  • L-Track
  • Max height 6’5”
CONS
  • Some complaints about calf massage intensity
  • Slim design
  • Width adjustment doesn’t work on all programs

Key Takeaway – The RELAXONCHAIR Massage Chair has some of the best features, including a super long L-track for added lower back relief. Unfortunately, the slimmer design means that it can be a tight fir for bigger boned people, especially around the calves.

.

6. Massage Chair by OOTORI,3D SL-Track

OOTORI Massage Chair

Not a very cheap chair, and it keeps breaking. It’s a new brand with an unresponsive customer service department, and the company has basically no info online…

As with most off-brand chairs, OOTORI only accepts returns if there is a flaw with the product if there is a simple change of mind on your behalf you’re going to have to pay for shipping yourself.

That being said, this model does have a 3-year warranty, except that nobody answers the phone or emails.

Besides that, this chair has SL-Track, which combines the benefits of S-track and L-track t give you complete lower-back relief.

SL-Track – The two tracking systems work in tandem to give you a full-spine massage that few other models at this price offer.

Zero-Gravity – Zero gravity with space-saving design (only needs 2” of wall space) puts you in the optimum massaging position so you can let go of stress and discomfort and lie back and enjoy your massage.

Yoga Stretch – One of the 6 automatic programs is a yoga stretching program which decompresses your spine and stretches tight muscles.

Shoulder Width Adjustment – The 3D-hands shoulder rollers adjust in and out to match the width of your shoulders

Bluetooth – The Bluetooth connectivity allows you to connect your device and play your favorite music through the 3D Dolby surround system to make your experience even more enjoyable.

Auto Body Detection – This smart chair detects your body measurements and adjusts the rollers to get to all the right spots.

PROS
  • Good features
  • 3-year Warranty
CONS
  • Max Size is about 6’
  • Bad customer service
  • Returns on own dime

Key Takeaway: This isn’t a bad zero gravity massage chair, especially considering the SL-Track and yoga stretch features, which are great for lower back pain. If you’re on the shorter side this isn’t a bad option but customer service isn’t great

.

7. Ideal Massage Full Featured Shiatsu Chair

Ideal Massage Chair

The Ideal Massage is just under $1500 on Amazon. And while it looks great on paper, there are a few issues with the design.

It has arm massage, but the arms holders don’t hold your arm well, so you need to keep readjusting your arms.

It’s also quite a mild massage compared to some other chairs, so if you are more sensitive than most, this may be just the chair for you, on the other hand, if you want an intense massage this chair isn’t a good pick for you,

3D Intelligent Detect and S-Track – The four massage hands work on an S-track that detects your body’s unique curves to give you a tailored massage.

Adjustable Timer and Massage Functions – The timer sets anywhere from 5-30 minutes, and the four massage techniques (Shiatsu, kneading, back rollers, and vibration) are speed, intensity, and pressure adjustable. There are also 4 automatic programs to choose from, which offer a combination of the previously mentioned techniques. So whether you want a specific technique or a combination, the option is there.

Heat and Airbags – The heating pads are located in the lower back, while the airbags are situated at the arms, shoulders, hips, calves, and feet with 6 kneading balls in the footrests to provide your soles with a deep, relaxing massage.

Zero Gravity – The zero gravity has three different levels to choose from, so you can set it to the level of recline that works best for you.

Three Year Warranty – warranty extends to frame, body and electronic parts, with a relatively reliable customer service. The returns policy extends to 10 days from the day you receive the chair, making this a good option to try out because if you aren’t satisfied you can send it back (remember to keep the boxes).

PROS
  • S-Track
  • Warranty and Return Policy
  • Intelligent Detect
CONS
  • Too weak for some
  • No stretch function

Key Takeaway: This is a good chair with a fair amount of features and a good returns policy and warranty, but this chair offers a weaker massage that doesn’t have a stretch function, which is good if you are very sensitive, but not s great if you like a stronger massage.

.

8. RELAXONCHAIR [MK-II Plus] Full Body Zero Gravity Shiatsu Massage Chair

RELAXONCHAIR MK Plus

The upgraded RELAXONCHAIR offers a more limited range of features, but also provides a better calf massage and remote.

All in all, this upgrade is not worth that much in terms of functionality, the foot rollers are still strong, and the backlight on the remote is very weak.

That being said, there is excellent customer service on this model. As for the features…

It’s unclear whether the full amount of auto programs and manual massage techniques are still available, so we opted for the lower amount to avoid disappointing you.

4 Massage Programs – The four automatic massage programs include a stretching and a deep tissue program

3 Manual Programs – The manual programs include 3 different massage techniques, including kneading, tapping, and a combination giving you the option to choose your favorite technique.

3 Levels of Airbag and Speed Adjustments – The airbag pressure/intensity and speed of the rollers can be adjusted to three different levels so you can choose a combination that works best for you.

Calf and Foot Massage – Airbags offer a compression massage to the calves and feet, while rollers add a little extra relaxation with a concentrated kneading on your feet.

Arm Massage – Of the 42 airbags, some of them are located in the arms, giving you a relaxing arm massage.

Heating – The two heating pads in the lower back area provide extra relief from pain and increases the depth of relaxation.

Hip Airbags – The airbags situated in the hips area offer a lower back and hip alignment, adding to the lower back benefits of this chair.

3-Year Warranty – The warranty covers parts for the first year and structure for the following two years, labor/shipping not included.

Upgraded Remote and Airbag Pressure – The remote is simpler to use and can be held comfortably in one hand while the airbag pressure in the calves and feet has been reduced.

PROS
  • L-Track
  • Max height 6’5”
  • 3-Year Warranty
  • Less intense pressure on calves
CONS
  • More limited features
  • Very limited warranty

Key Takeaway – The RELAXONCHAIR II has some good features, including a super long L-track for added lower back relief. Unfortunately, the new model may be lacking some of the features the original had. And the upgrades are an improvement, but still not the best.

.

9. Zero Gravity Full Body Massage Chair Recliner Built-in Bluetooth Neck Shoulder Back Waist Foot Roller by Hrelax

Full Body Massage Recliners

This is not the best model, but it’s better than some of the others out there.

It offers 8 fixed rollers, lower back heating, and full-body airbag massage, and while most people seem satisfied with the product, there are some concerning customer complaints, including a fake warranty claim as well as fake advertisement claims.

6 Massage Programs – The six massage programs use 8 fixed rollers and a full set of airbags for a full body massage.

Adjustable Speed and Intensity – There are three speed and intensity settings that can be applied to the areas of your choice for a more personalized massage.

Bluetooth – The Bluetooth connects to surround sound so you can lay your favorite music as you sit back and relax.

Heating and Zero Gravity – Like most massage chairs there is lower back heating and zero gravity to improve your massage experience.

PROS
  • Bluetooth
CONS
  • Very basic features
  • Unreliable vendor and customer service

Key Takeaway: I would advise against buying this model, its only redeeming feature is that it has Bluetooth. There are much better options available.

.

10. Best Massage EC06

EC06 Recliner

While offering a wide variety of EC06 features is known for malfunctioning and the returns policy does not cover postage and they don’t do in-home repairs either.

On the plus side, this chair does accommodate people up to 6’3” and offers 9 programs with adjustable intensity and a manual massage function with 7 different massage modes.

Fully Adjustable: You can adjust the angle, speed, width, intensity (3 levels), and pressure (4 levels) for a fully personalized massage with 7 different massage modes to choose from.

Airbags and Heating Pads – With 21 airbags located at the arms, hips, shoulder, thighs, calves, and feet with heating pads in the back and foot sections help to add pressure and soothing heat to all the right areas for a relaxing massage.

Body Scanning – The smart body scan automatically measures the length of your spine as well as your weight for a custom fit and intensity massage while your neck, shoulder, waist, back, leg, and feet are completely supported.

Variety of Functions:

  • 7 Massage Modes: kneading, tapping, stretching, shiatsu, combo, air pressure, heating.
  • 9 preset auto massage programs, including special stretching programs for full body stretching
  • manual massage: allows you to control your own massage.
PROS
  • Good Functions and Features
  • Body Scanning
  • Max 6’3”
CONS
  • Bad customer service
  • Shipping fee on all returns, no in-home repairs
  • Tendency to break

Key Takeaway: while this model offers some of the best features, it is a bit of a gamble as the customer service is bad, return shipping fees must be paid y the customer and it has a tendency of breaking… If you’re prepared to take this risk, this is a very good deal.

.

What’s a Massage Chair. How Long Should You Allow To Use It

A massage chair has mechanisms that mimic a real massage. Using a combination of air cushions, rollers, heating pads, and vibrations, the chair helps to relax your muscles with a variety of massage techniques including percussion, kneading, shiatsu, compression, tapping and stretching.

I am using these features and techniques; a massage chair targets all the major muscle groups, from the shoulders down to the calves.

How Long Should You Stay in It

At least this is the main concept of a massage chair, but some have fewer features than others.

Most chairs include a roller mechanism for the spine and air cushions for the legs, with basically all of them including a heating feature of some sort for the lower spine, but the quality can be severely compromised the cheaper you go.

With most massage chairs, it’s advisable to use them for 15-20 minutes at a time, up to three times a day.

But this depends entirely on the level of pain or muscle tension you have and how intense your massage chair is.

If you have a strong massage chair with very tense muscles, 15 minutes once or twice a day to start off with maybe enough if your chair is of the gentler variety, you may be able to work up to three 20 minute sessions a day.

Pace yourself in the beginning, doing too much too soon can lead to inflammation, tenderness and, in the worst cases, bruising.

Key Takeaway: When it comes to cheaper massage chairs. Some have fewer, but better features, while others have all the features you may want, but not a very good quality experience… that’s why we’ve only selected chairs that are not only a good price but offer a quality experience that won’t let you down.

Is it Bad to Use a Massage Chair Too Much?

Yes, if you set the intensity too high or use it for too long in one session, it can cause discomfort or even pain.

To Use Massage ChairBut you can use your massage chair quite often, about twice a day, but for shorter periods of about 15-20 minutes.

Unless you are used to your chair, spending more than 20 minutes in it at a time can cause muscle soreness because your body is not used to being poked and prodded.

That being said, muscle tenderness after the first couple of sessions on a new massage chair is pretty normal, especially if you jumped straight into the full-strength massage mode.

Bruising is never normal, and that means you’ve definitely overdone it.

Going all-out on a sore muscle will only cause it to cramp up more.

To really get soft, supple, pain-free muscles you need to start off slow and work your way up.

Key Takeaway: Yes, using a massage chair for too long or on too high an intensity can be bad for you and will cause more stress than relaxation.

Kahuna vs Relaxonchair

They both offer the same basic features, but Kahuna has added manual settings and is better in terms of reliability.

vs Kahuna LM6800

That being said, The RELAXONCHAIR does accommodate taller and heavier people, so it may be worth it if someone fitting that description is going to be using it.

Final Words. Which Brand of Massage Chair is the Best?

While most of the models on the list are good for the price, the Kahuna LM 6800 stands out above the rest in terms of the number of features and reliability.

The RELAXONCHAIR is a close second, especially if you’re taller or bigger than the average person.

Do be wary of investing in the Ideal Massage if you like stronger massages, or the RELAXONCHAIR, especially the original version if you are very sensitive to pressure.

The Hrelax model is a bit of a gamble, but it does offer the basic features for a good price, and the Bluetooth might sell you on it. The Osaki and Human Touch are definitely money well spent, though.
