OSAKI OS-4000CS Zero Gravity Massage Chair Review (2023)

(Last Updated On: November 27, 2023)

I’ve come across many companies in the industry claiming to deliver Japan-made massage chairs despite them being manufactured in China. Osaki is one such company.

While I have no qualms with Chinese manufacturers, I find it hard to put my faith in any company that misleads its customers.

That aside, I’ve taken a look at one of their massage chairs — the OS-4000CS, to see if the company is worth it’s salt.

Truth be told, this model offers some pretty decent features. The price of it isn’t ridiculous, to say the least. However, if you’re looking for a more practical purchase, the Kahuna SM3700 offers the same features and more for nearly half of its price.

Take a look at my in-depth review and comparison of both models below:

PROS
  • Computer Body Scan technology
  • L-track
  • Zero gravity chair fully recline
  • Space efficient design
  • Air compression massage features
  • Adjustable shoulder massage
  • Extendable Ottoman
  • Lumbar Heat
  • Multiple Massage Techniques
  • Deep Tissue
  • Deep Stretching
CONS
  • No inversion massage therapy
  • No foot rollers
  • Manufactured in China, not Japan
  • No memory settings
  • No hideaway ottoman
  • No reflexology massagers
  • No MP3 player
  • No chromotherapy
  • Expensive add-ons for delivery and white glove service

About The Osaki/Titan Company

If you’re looking for a company that is 100% Japanese-made (i.e made in Japan and sourced from Japan) you’re out of luck. The Osaki company may have a Japanese-derived name, but most of its flagship products are manufactured in China.

Additionally, 90% of its products are manufactured in China as well. Normally, this wouldn’t be a big issue. Some China-made chairs and products are worth the money.

Osaki Titan Logo

The problems stem from misleading consumers into thinking their products are manufactured in Japan. This growing trend has become increasingly problematic in recent years.

USA-Based – This “Japanese” company is actually based in the United States. While that may actually be beneficial, it’s unclear why consumers would trust a company that blatantly misleads them.

100% Japan Made – Don’t get me wrong. There are some models of spring-loaded that are manufactured in Japan. This is thanks to Titan’s work with Fujiiryoki, which is a leading manufacturer based in Japan.

Summary: Overall, I’d say that if you’re looking for a 100% Japan made chair, the Osaki company only carries very few. Aside from that, the company isn’t really Japanese at all. It’s US-based. On that note, if you were to invest in a US-based company, you’re better off spending your money in Kahuna chairs.

Osaki OS-4000CS Review (Notable Features & Benefits)

OS 4000cs

You could say that the Osaki OS-4000CS massage chair is one of the cheapest massage chairs with an L-Track system. Sitting at nearly $4000, this chair is considered among the lower middle-class chairs.

However, that doesn’t mean its functions are inferior. In fact, it actually packs some decent features. Take a look:

Zero Gravity Recline – You’ll reap the benefits of resting in a zero-gravity environment. Experts say that the virtually weightless state of relaxing a zero-gravity recliner offers will help your body recover faster from daily stress.

Here are some of the benefits of Zero-G:

  • Ease back pain almost immediately.
  • Reduces swelling and minimizes stress on your heart.
  • Increases and stimulates blood circulation.

Zero-Gravity Function

L-Track Massage – You’ll enjoy the attention your body gets from the L-track rollers on this model. It targets your back, thighs, and glutes effectively for the ultimate therapeutic session.

  • Compared to its predecessor—the S-Track system, L-Track massages are considerably superior. You may not know it, but your thighs and glutes work incredibly hard throughout the day. Every part of your body deserves attention.

Space-Efficient Design – If you’re planning to put your massage chair in a smaller room, or are afraid of cluttering any room, the space-saving technology of recline track design on this model is perfect for you.

  • Unlike other recliner chairs, this model only needs a 4″ wall clearance. It will slide forward before reclining, so you don’t have to worry about wasting space between your recliner and your wall.

Shoulder AdjustmentsAir Compression – If you’re either not a fan of intense massages or you want something more soothing on top of your therapeutic massage, you’ll enjoy the airbag massage system on this recliner.

  • It effectively targets your whole body. That includes your lumbar area, waist, shoulders, calves and feet, legs, and hands. It provides a completely immersive massage session when coupled with the advanced roller system.

Shoulder Adjustment – It has received multiple complaints from broad-shouldered customers in the past; luckily, the company listened. They have developed shoulder adjustments to accommodate customers with wider shoulders.

  • The adjustability adds to the overall customizability. This will allow for a more custom-tailored experience. So whether you have broad or narrow shoulders, It will fit you comfortably.

Summary: The OS-4000CS carries many great features for the price. Some of the features you’ll find are more commonplace in higher-end units like the zero gravity position function. Overall, it is a great choice and a decent model. However, the Kahuna SM7300 is a more sensible option. Considering it’s features it’s a relatively cheap massage chair.

Reliability and Warranty of OS-4000

This top brand offers three warranty options. All of which are reasonable enough. Take a look at the different types below:

  • Warranty ExtendedThree-Year Rock Solid Warranty – This warranty covers replacement and repairs without any charges for faulty/defective parts, workmanship, or structure.
  • First-year – Parts, Labor, Structural Framework
  • Second Year – Parts and Structural Framework
  • Third Year – Structural Framework
  • Four-Year Extended Warranty – if you want an additional year on your warranty, you can purchase it. By purchasing this added warranty, you are signing yourself up for an extra year of in-home service parts replacement and labor, and framework.
  • Five-Year Extended Warranty – if you really want to be sure, the five years extended warranty is basically the same as the four-year warranty. The only difference, of course, is that two years will be added to your standard warranty.

Additionally, you also have the option to have your massage chair delivered in-home instead of the standard free curbside delivery. Unfortunately, that will cost you an additional $99.

Moreover, if you want the white-glove service, it’s also unreasonably priced at nearly $180.

Summary: The warranty coverage is pretty decent. However, if you’re willing to spend the extra cash, get the extra warranty. There are also options for getting an in-home delivery instead of the standard curbside or white-glove service. However, those are very unreasonably priced considering it should come with your initial purchase.

Ogawa Robotic

This model is one of the few chairs that come with its own massage chair. This product is a special massage chair that can be attached to the chair’s base and can provide various types of massages. Other models come with an additional recliner for extended sessions but this one can work well with any kind. This Ogawa has a motorized mechanism that can tilt the chair back and forth. The chair has a massage function but if you don’t feel like getting up to use the massage function.

And it’s much easier than using an ordinary recliner. If you need the chair to work more than one way you can simply download the software from the company’s website. This is a unique piece of furniture because it can be used as an office chair but it also has the added benefit of providing sessions.

The product itself is quite sturdy and it can hold all kinds of weight. The price is great considering that it also has a massage function and it is currently on sale. Pros: Very sturdy, More affordable than other products, Soft and cool like a large heated mattress, and Comes with the chair itself. Cons: The device does not vibrate, Does not rotate or vibrate, is A bit uncomfortable, and cannot raise up to lift up to the floor.

User Reviews, What Customers are Saying?

It’s easy to find great reviews on retailers like Amazon.

What Customers are SayingHowever, if you really want to know what you’re looking at from the company, you should head over to its Better Business Bureau profile.

Admittedly, there aren’t that many complaints. However, some of the complaints do attest to the poor customer service you will receive from this company.

You’ll find reviews about substandard massage recliners and poor craftsmanship as well.

But that isn’t to say you won’t find stellar reviews for some of their products.

Most reviews on online retailers average from four to five stars so they must be doing something right.

Note: It might not be the best idea to purchase a massage chair from a company that claims they are made in Japan when they are made in China. Additionally, the company itself is based in the USA. The only Japanese thing you’ll find on this company are 10% of its chair models and products and their name. However, they do deliver good products that are reasonably priced.

Questions & Answers

Where Are Osaki Chair Models Are Made?

95% of their models are made in China. Only very few are actually made in Japan. Unfortunately, the unit I’m discussing in this article is made in China.

Can I Use a Massage Chair Every Day?

It is not advisable to use your massage chair’s massage feature every day. According to Titan Chair, overusing your massage chair is harmful to your body. As is with everything, it is important to use your chair responsibly.

OSAKI OS4000csHere are a few things to remember:

  • It is generally more beneficial to use your chair for short 2-15 minute intervals.
  • For a full body massage experience, keep your use to 3-4 times each week.
  • For stress relief and relaxation, it is recommended to use it 1-3 times each week.

You may think this is a ridiculous notion. After all, how can your completely relaxing recliner hurt you?

Subjecting your body to excessive massages poses a threat to muscle recovery.

Despite the benefits of regular massages, it’s not a good idea to subject your tense muscles to constant kneading.

It can have adverse effects on your health and could even worsen the pain you feel.

However, if you’re using your chair simply for its zero-gravity recline, body stretching features, or heat therapy, it’s perfectly reasonable to do so each day as long as you feel comfortable.

Are Osaki Massage Chairs Good?

Osaki chairs are good. However, if you’re spending money on a non-authentic Japan recliner, you’re better off purchasing a Kahuna. They’re usually less expensive and execute the functions more efficiently.

Are Osaki Massage Chairs Worth It?

Whether or not Osaki massage chairs are worth it depends on several factors, including your personal preferences, budget, and the specific features and benefits offered by the chair. Osaki is a reputable brand that produces a range of models with various features, such as zero gravity positioning, air massage, and Bluetooth connectivity.

These chairs are designed to provide therapeutic benefits such as improved circulation, reduced muscle tension, and stress relief. However, they can be quite expensive, and you should carefully consider your needs and budget before investing. Ultimately, if you prioritize regular massage therapy and have the budget to invest in a high-quality model, Osaki chairs may be worth the investment.

Do Doctors Recommend Massage Chair?

While a doctor’s prescription isn’t usually required to purchase a chair, many medical professionals recommend their use as an additional therapy for certain conditions. The soothing motions of the chair can help reduce muscle strain and stress levels while also improving circulation – all ideal outcomes for individuals with chronic pain, anxiety, or other health ailments.

Research has proven that massage therapy can be incredibly helpful in alleviating symptoms of conditions like fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis and migraine headaches. Nevertheless, prior to using it, it is essential to speak with your medical practitioner – particularly if you have any existing health issues or apprehensions.

Where is Osaki Manufactured?

All Osaki chairs are made in China. Except for the JP chair which is made in Japan. Osaki is a brand of massage chairs that are manufactured in China but use materials and components sourced from various regions, including China, Japan, and other countries for better quality and functionality. The manufacturing facilities for Osaki massage chairs are located in China, where the assembly and production processes occur. The facilities employ skilled workers who specialize in production and adhere to strict quality control standards. Are Titan and Osaki the Same?

Although Titan and Osaki are separate entities, they are connected in the industry. Both Titan and Osaki are popular names in this industry, with Osaki being the more established brand. Titan is a subsidiary of Osaki and produces various massage chair models to cater to customers’ different preferences and budgets. It’s important to note that Osaki designs and manufactures all Titan massage chairs. The Titan brand specializes in delivering massage chairs that are both affordable and feature-rich. Meanwhile, Osaki offers a wider selection of massage chairs that come with varying levels of technology, customization choices, and prices. Both brands are dedicated to providing excellent massage chairs, dependable customer support, and warranties for their products.

What is the Most Popular Massage Chair?

Global Market Insight (GMI) recently published an extensive report on the market. According to the report, the market is expected to grow with a CAGR of 6.5% during the forecast period of 2017-2023. The report covers all the major factors driving the growth of the market including increasing health awareness, a rising number of dermatological disorders, and many more. The increasing cases of cosmetic surgery are also the key factors driving the growth of the market. The increasing popularity of topless massage chairs also plays an important role in the growth of the market. The demand for better-quality models with the latest technology and innovative chairs is also driving the market growth. The growing disposable income along with increasing awareness of spas & massage are also driving.

Who Makes the Most Reliable Massage Chair?

With so many models on the market, you need to choose the one that provides you with maximum comfort and relief from aches and pains. While that can be a difficult task, there is a pretty simple way to determine whether the firm massaging chair you choose is going to perform well for you.

Get a Regular Imbalance Analysis. This is a pretty simple method for determining if the chair you are considering is going to do a good job. To do this, you simply need to install a test bar that rests in the seat of the chair and then monitor how your body is balanced throughout the day. If you do not keep an eye on how your body is being kept balanced, you could end up with back pain or other side effects as a result.

Is it Bad to Sit in a Massage Chair for a Long Time?

If your goal is to strengthen your hips, your glutes, and your hamstrings, then it is a very bad idea to sit in a massage chair for a very long. By the way, this is also a bad idea to stand behind the massage chair and pretend that you are using it. I know it is tempting to try and get that nice warm towel massage before getting your body into that torture chair.

However, you will inevitably need to sit in the chair for an extended period of time and your posture will worsen in the process. Think about it – sitting on a massage chair is like sitting behind a table for a 20-30 minute scalp massage. That’s right, in the process of getting your head massaged, you may have lifted and tightened your shoulders, hips, and even hamstrings.

Osaki OS-4000LS vs Osaki OS-4000CS

The Osaki OS-4000LS and OS-4000CS are two distinct models within the Osaki massage chair lineup, each offering unique features catered to varying preferences and therapeutic needs.

Starting with the Osaki OS-4000LS, this massage chair is distinguished by its L-track design, which stands for “long track.” The L-track extends from the neck down to the lower back and further into the glutes and thighs, providing an extended massage range compared to traditional S-track designs. This extended track is designed to closely follow the natural curvature of the spine, offering more comprehensive coverage and targeting areas that might be missed in conventional massage chairs.

In contrast, the Osaki OS-4000CS features an S-track design, focusing on the curvature of the spine in an S-shaped pattern. While the S-track is shorter in comparison to the L-track, it remains a popular choice for its ability to deliver precise and concentrated massage therapy to key areas of the back. The S-track design is well-suited for individuals seeking targeted relief in the neck, shoulders, and lumbar region.

Both models share common features, including zero-gravity recline positions, airbag compression technology, and a variety of massage techniques such as kneading, tapping, and rolling. These features contribute to an immersive and customizable massage experience tailored to individual preferences.

The Osaki OS-4000LS and OS-4000CS also integrate advanced technology, such as body scanning systems, to personalize massage sessions based on the user’s body shape and size. This ensures that the massage rollers and airbags are precisely positioned to deliver effective and comfortable massages.

When considering these two models, the choice between the Osaki OS-4000LS and OS-4000CS ultimately boils down to individual preferences regarding the massage track design. The OS-4000LS with its L-track provides a more extensive massage coverage, ideal for those seeking a full-body massage experience. On the other hand, the OS-4000CS, with its S-track design, is suitable for users who prioritize targeted relief in specific areas of the back. Careful consideration of these design differences will guide users toward selecting the Osaki massage chair that best aligns with their therapeutic preferences and comfort preferences.

Conclusion

If you came here looking for a Japan-made massage chair, I hate to burst your bubble. The 4000CS is unfortunately made in China. That said, China-made chair products aren’t necessarily bad. The Osaki is pretty decent.

Yes, some have reported structural problems. But there are also those who have openly recommended their purchase.

.

From what I see, the Osaki OS-4000CS is a good model. It has a lot of great functions and is priced reasonably. However, the Kahuna SM7300 offers nearly the same features (and executes them better) for nearly half the price.

Summary: Kahuna is a more reliable company compared to Osaki. Their SM7300 unit is also less expensive than the OS-4000cs and performs the same functions more effectively.
